Who we are
We are so excited to launch the Oxford Cancer Society - we have a fantastic committee with lots of ideas and hope to bring everyone a great year of everything cancer!
Meet the new Oxford Cancer Society committee for the 2023-24 academic year!

What do you want to do with OCS this year?
I'm really looking forward to working with our awesome committee to get OCS off the ground! Hoping to have a great first year that provides a place for anyone interested in oncology to enjoy talks, get involved in research, and understand more about a career in cancer.

What do you find interesting about cancer?
What interests me about cancer is how it is found in all specialties and how so many people have been impacted by it.

Year: 5
What do you want to do with the OCS this year?
I'm excited to help medical students explore the field of oncology, consider careers within it and learn about the latest research in the field.

Year: 6
What do you find interesting about cancer?
The field of cancer is incredibly dynamic, from diagnostics and monitoring to novel therapeutics - and there is plenty of opportunity to get involved in research projects. Oncologists need to demonstrate three-dimensional thinking and creative problem solving to care for patients in a holistic way; the idea of putting into practice these skills is really exciting.
What do you want to do with the OCS this year?
As part of my role I will organise interesting talks and workshops to further (and hopefully inspire) people's interest in oncology as a career pathway and research avenue.
Events coordinator
Year: 6
What do you want to do with the OCS this year?
I am really excited to be working with the OCS committee to put on a range of events for students who share my passion for oncology. In the coming months, I am keen to get speakers from a range of cancer-associated fields, promote collaboration with other societies and set up a conference for students interested in oncology!

What do you want to do with the OCS this year?
I aim to play a leading role in organising and promoting oncology-related events. I see this as an enjoyable and meaningful way of giving back to our community of medical students. I hope this will also inspire and ignite enthusiasm in students across all years about the rapidly evolving and absorbing field of oncology!

What do you find interesting about cancer?
I find the complex interactions between cancer and the immune system really fascinating - both the mechanisms by which cancer evades the immune system, and the ways in which we can use immunotherapies to boost the immune response.
What do you want to do with the OCS this year?
I hope we can arrange some really interesting talks from renowned oncologists and researchers. As part of the publicity team, I am keen to reach lots of students who are interested in cancer through up-to-date posting and an interactive website!
